Custom modifications:

In Feb 2024 I purchased this pristine Elkhart Conn 8D from 1958. The serial number is 724669. 2nd owner Bought this horn from the original owner who purchased it in 1960 and sent it off to Ion Balu to restore it to like new condition Dec 2023. It is an all original Elkhart 8D, however the original leadpipe was replaced with a K series Elkhart leadpipe, since the original one was bent too much for repair. One thing to note, during the annealing and repair work on the bell, the engraving was smoothed out. However it is the original bell and bell tail. The bell has the laser etching from Ion indicating this is from the original Elkhart 8D. The lacquer was removed and the horn given a very light polish, so it will acquire a nice patina in some time. Here is a list of the work Ion Balu did: 1. Lacquer removed. 2. Bell cut (Alexander rings) and bell ring laser etched. 3. Ultrasonic cleaning done 4. All dents/dings removed 5. A light polishing 6. Adjustable pinky hook installed 7. Traditional water key on the leadpipe This horn really plays well and the slides give a reassuring pop. There is plenty of metal left on the horn, so it is good to go for many more years. No patches, no thin spots, and that lovely dark sound you expect with a vintage Conn 8D Additional pictures from 2nd owner and even some videos of the restoration process, which you can find here: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/17xWNXPJsExZDZsO2YkD8UFWosYsd-q_8?usp=sharing
