This horn was made by the prolific firm of V. F. Červený & Sons, Königgräts (Hrádec Kralové), Bohemia.
(Above) Of the numbers stamped on the underside of the valve key saddle, the 15 is probably a work number for this particular valve set while 2370 is might be a part number for this valve set design.

(Left) A serial number, 31508, is stamped on the ferrule below the third valve.
From the firms founding V. F. Červený strove to improve the valve design of brass instruments. In 1862 a patent was issued for an improved cylinder valve. Then in 1873 the valves rotors were mounted horizontally (as shown below) and the linkage simplified. Eldest son Jaroslav Červený added an adjusting screw to control the tension of the spring, which was incorporated into the invention patent. Červený called this arrangement Walzenventile (rolling or barrel valves). The rotors were also constructed with a significant taper similar to the original rotary valve of Blühmel.
